I tried to cultivate with my dk40 the other day and I couldn't get the 3pt arms adjusted with the pins and sleeves so that the arms would be tight. Is there a secret to this? I usually use my 2460 which has turnbuckle adjusting chains do there is no left to right movement. Anybody done any miss our have any idea?

The pins will not tighten like a turnbuckle but will have a little play. Make sure the sway pins are not in a slot but in the tightest holes you can make work.

I need to fabricate something to get the sway out of my lift arms. It is really annoying and definitely hinders production to an extent. Anybody got any ideas or pictures to show how this has been overcome. I just want to do it right the first time..

A tric I use sometimes is to use a pry bar on the pin location on the implement (mine have usually 1/2 inch to play with) to move the ball joint in and out on the implement pin to get the bar pin in the tightest hole. Takes some practice, but is minimizes the swing, especially for my post hole digger that has a lot of slop.

Now a while back I saw a guy use small chain tighteners (cargo tie down ratchet chain tightener) to tighten up his 3pt on both sides - probably 3/8 chain. He used a clevis to tie back to the mount points - was on an old IH tractor if I remember. He was trying to adjust a plow/harrow of some sort and had a broken side stabilizer. Forgive me if I am wrong on this, it was a while ago.

I can deal with 1/2 of play for sure. I have the 3 pt quick hitch installed. I'll have to give it another shot, because it seemed that I had 4 or 5 inches of play when I thought it was as tight as it could go. I'm not used to pin adj, so it could be all user error and lack of familiarity.

Based on my experience, some 3 point lift arm movement is necessary for optimum implement performance. Less than 3-5 inch movement is too tight. Ken Sweet

Let's see if I can explain this in words.

I have the same style sway adj arms, and the way they connect on the tractor end, makes it difficult to get them tight without holding the "joint".

So what I do, is get one side pinned in, then go around to the opposite side, and pull tight on the implement, so all slack is out of the already pinned side.

Then, if I were to just put the pin in on the side I haven't done yet, it would end up really lose. I have to actually reach back to where the sway bars are connected to the tractor (sort of a double joint where it connects) and pull the joint to get all the slack out, this will enable me to use a new hole and get the implement tighter on the sway bars.

Pretty hard to explain, and that may not make any sense, so if it doesn't, then....well...hmmm.
