I am looking at a hardly used 3pt backhoe from Kelley. The docs say that the tractor hydraulics need to be rated at 2000 psi. I cannot find anything regarding that for the CT450. Anyone know what its rated at?

Also, I have rear remotes, so how does a 3pt backhoe work off of the rear remotes? I understand how they work if you have a dump wagon on them or something similar, just pull the lever. What I don't understand is how does the backhoe get its fluid if your not pulling the lever?

TIA,
Tim

As far as the hyd. if you dont have a detent in the valves (a locking position) you will have to take a bungie cord and hold them open. As far as a 3pt lift BH i would check if the tractors warranty will be voided if you attach one on your tractor. I know MF will void the warranty if you use a 3pt hoe because you could snap the lift arms or damage the internals in the lift housing.

You will either need to install a detend in your remote valve or use a bungee cord. That will allow constant fluid flow.
Now for the backhoe.
I would not buy a Kelly backhoe! (Very week hydraulics)
Nor would I ever put a 3pt backhoe on a tractor.

I don't know anything about Kelley BH's but I agree with Rick, I would not put a BH on a 3pt hitch. On my Woods BH80-x, there is a lot of force applied when digging and there is no way I would trust the 3pt hitch to be able to handle that force.

If you can buy the BH for a good price it is better than the cheap wooden handled shovels they are making these days. Most BH's can be made to mount on a subframe. To make your own subframe is not that hard if you can weld or do the cutting and have a buddy weld it.

I agree. 3PH backhoes are hard on the tractor. If you are planning on using it alot, look for a subframe or make that a subframe hoe.

But if only once-in-a-blue-moon use, and the price is right, I'd buy it.

To answer you origional question, your tractor is probabally rated @ around 2400psi. It will work with less, but it will just have less force.

If the 3 point arms or mount points fail while using the backhoe you could be thrown behind the tractor or crushed into the tractor. Personally I would not consider a 3 point backhoe for anything more than the softest soil.

Thanks for the replys...my thoughts were the same to build it a sub-frame. And its only gonna cost me around $800. Need to go and check it out first.

I am not planning on digging a foundation with it, just small digging projects around the farm.

Going to need to research detent valves next. :)
