Hello everybody: I have just bought my first tractor I have wanted one for a long time. The tractor I bought is a L2800 with FEL & 3pt Backhoe ,what I am wondering does the 3pt arms hold up over the long haul or is there anything special that I can do to help them out. If there is an answer to my question it will be here. Thanks ahead of time for any help.

WV_Budman,

Welcome to TBN!

What backhoe do you have? Is it the Kubota hoe or something else?

Anyway, 3PH backhoes can be a concern. If they are mounted properly maybe not much of a concern. But determining whether your backhoe is mounted according to specs should be a concern until you know for sure.

In some cases a 3PH backhoe requires some additional brackets to be installed for strength. I don't know about your tractor. I know mine does.

You might try to find out what is required by Kubota for that particular model. Tractor breakage is not that common with 3PH backhoes, but it has happened and has been reported here a time or two.

Again, chances are you will be OK and don't have to worry about anything. But it never hurts to ask.

Post some more details about the backhoe type and you may get some better, specific feedback.

Enjoy your first tractor. It will do a lot of hard work for you... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The 3pt hoe I have is a Bradco 3375 I bought it from my dealer and was installed by them before I recieved my tractor. They told me it was a tough hoe.I only have 5hrs on the whole thing, weather here has been kind of wet, had the tractor about 2 weeks.Already getting complaints from wife about all the mud. That goes along with the fun.

I had a Kubota L2650 for a number of years . I added a 3ph Kubota backhoe( maybe a #4690?) to it . I can't remember the exact model number now ,but it dug down to about 8.5 feet. It dug very well and I don't remember Kubota having to strenghten anything to set it up for me . The only problem I encountered was bending the top support pin . If I had it installed for a long period of time and then changed over to the box blade ,I almost always ended up torching the pin in half to get it disconnected . If would bend that pin into a u shape and nothing but a cutting torch could get it out .

It probably does not help you now. But for others. Kubota has a special hardened pins for BH top link. They warn in manual that if not used pins could bend. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
On a new BH they are hooked to chains so that they are not lost. It did not take long to get rid of chains. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Marked pins so they do not get mixed up. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

(Ron already knows the following. I though I would post it for anyone new to 3PH backhoes... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

Even worse, the pin could break!

And if the safety devices (limiter bar under the 3PH arms, or whatever a given 3PH hoe has) are not in place, bad things can happen.

People have died after being squeezed between the backhoe seat and the ROPS. There is a description of one such case at Steve Carver's site, worth a read by 3PH backhoe owners who have not seen it yet.

Here's a link to the Carver site article

I just bought the L3400 with the BH75 hoe. It is a subframe mount (4 point) a much safer unit, goes on and off in a snap. I did quite a bit of research before I purchased and could not see trading off even the smallest amount of safety. I got a good deal on it (6030) from my local dealer in TN.

In snowed here last night, or I would have them delivering it today. It sured seemed to be the way to go when I got to play with it on Saturday.
