Kubota B1750 HST
I have a Kubota B1750 (older model 20HP with HST).

The 3ph holds position nicely provided I hold the 3PH lever in position. As soon as I let go of the lever it drops with virtually no resistance to the lowest postion (and subsequently the implements drop).

If I lock the lever at a position using the little wingnut locking slider widget that travels in the levers slot then the implements stay up - no hydraulic leakdown.

Essentially the problem is the lever is just too free moving and drops under its own weight.

Is there an easy fix for this? - some kind of "friction washer" to add some resistance to the lever movement?

There should be a friction washer behind the nut that holds the lever, give the nut about a quater turn, should solve your problem.

Thanks 8x56mn but thats not it. The nut holds the lever onto the shaft and the shaft is a rattling loose fit. Tightening the nut just locks the lever onto the shaft.

There is no resistance at all to the rotation of the shaft so the lever just flops to the lowest position.

From the diagram below I'm wondering if the friction to hold the lever in position is just an o-ring (485).

Does anyone know if I can take the cover off for this valve assembly for a better look without all the valve parts springing out all over the floor? Are they spring loaded under there?

Perhaps I'm on the wrong path here? Is the lever *supposed* to have friction to hold it in position or is it just the hardware in the running slot that holds the lever in position?

Looking at the following picture I'm missing part 130 (stopper) with the wingnut but I think these are just an upper stopper so not really needed? What I have been doing is lifting the lever up and then using the sliding stopper (150) with the wingnut to stop the lever flopping down. Perhaps you are supposed to always lock the implement up with the (clumsy) wingnut stopper?

I'm sure when I first got the tractor (2nd hand) I didnt have to use the wingnut to hold the lever (and hence the 3ph) up.

 I need enlightenment

Is it possible you could remove the 'surround' item #120 and bend the lever (#430) to make it more of a friction fit (drag) as it moves through the slot in #120?

I have the identical tractor as you. B1750 HST. I never have to worry about the 3ph lever moving, It always stays were I leave it. So to answer your question, you should not have to rely on the wing nut to hold it in place. I also agree that if yo bend teh lever a little it shold solve the problem.

Good luck

The part number 440 is your friction washer. Tightning the nut squeezes the washer thus causing friction. As you can see it's behind the handle. If it's missing you won't be able to grip. I would suggest pulling the handle of and putting a o ring on the shaft and then put the handle back on and tighten the nut until it doesn't slip without moving the handle. The wing nut is to allow you to set your travel when setting height such as with a rotary cutter or scraper blade with out having to fiddle with the height lever each time you lower the implement.

Thanks all - I'll take another look.

8x56mn - I put a socket wrench on the nut and tightened it as far as it would go. The handle is locked tight onto the shaft (part 460) and its the shaft that is sloppy (ie it seems a rattling loose fit where it goes intot he housing) I didnt try taking it right off - I'll do that and see if it becomes more obvious where the slop is. Its possible the friction washers have worn down to nothing or perhaps the previous owner had the handle off and lost them altogether??

I do seem to recall the handle rubbing on the side of the slot when I bought the tractor. I think I remember "fixing" that rubbing and this may be why I'm now being bothered by it.

Without seeing it and from what you describe it sounds like the part either got lost or wore out. You should be able to snug the nut up just to prevent the handle from moving by itself. Bending the handle would of course work, but not the proper solution. You could try a flat washer and lock washer behind the handle or a felt washer if you can get one. I would use a flat washer and an o-ring. Put the flat washer on the shaft first then the o-ring and then the handle and lastly the nut.
