I have a three point log splitter. It came with an open center control valve and a kit to convert it to closed center. I am going to attach it to the power beyond on my JD4700. My question is which valve configuration do I need? (closed or open center)

If it came set up as an open center, leave it alone. Always make sure a hose is connected to both fittings on your power beyond. Either by way of an implement such as the log splitter or by hooking up the short return hose from one fitting to the other. If you start the tractor with the little hose unhooked and hanging, you can do expensive damage.

This advice applies to the JD system. It may not apply to other tractors.

It applies to just about every other tractor that has that type of power beyond option connection.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am glad I asked as I assumed I would need the closed center and installed the kit. I will put it back to open center tomorrow. Thankfully it only takes 10 munutes to change if you work slowly as when it is cold. Thanks again.

Your 4700 tractor probably has a 12 GPM flow. That will make the log splitter really move. Watch your hands the first few times!!! We don't want to start calling you stubby.

My little 790 has less than half that flow and it is quick enough for me.
