Can someone help explain to me how to set up draft control. I have a MF4610 and a 3bottom plow, 3pt, with rear "furrow shaper?". I would like to use it as I have gently rolling ground. Don't use plow a lot, it a old Massey no less. Only want to run 5-6"s deep. Just flip over sod and stubble. I'll send pics if I get it working. Possibility of rain tomorrow.

I have read that I need to move top link to different position. But more questions on the nob. Its off and 1-8, I think. Do you sink implement to desired depth the turn nob until implement raises slightly? Then back one position? Never used before. Been using disc mower and rake and baler. First time tilling(plowing) with 3pt.

Thanks

There is lots of searchable info here but in a nutshell, you have the jist of the draft control. Begin plowing and set your depth, then as you say, raise the implement with the draft slightly then back it off just a bit. The problem with that method is that your draft control will change the depth of the plow over and over with minor changes in the load, you know hard spots and soft spots in the soil. You need to set the draft to lift the plow only if the tractor begins to labor (or spinout) while pulling. Make sense?

Thanks for input. Went and plowed yesterday. Only about an acre. Sod was a little tough. Should have polished the old plow up. The rust made it stick just a bit. I'll clean up the plow a bit. Need someone to identify this old massey plow as well.

Skyfish,

Here is a photo of my plow and it was all painted blue when I bought it. A plow will scour it's self without you manually laboring to get it to shine.

Marine Grease is often recommended for keeping moldboards rust free between work sessions. Marine Grease sacrifices some lube efficiency for increased water resistance.

I spray on a single thin coat of any Rustoleum spray paint. This has worked 100% for me.
