Eager as a beaver I went out to try using 3pt snowblower and it just kept clogging. I had rpms up to 2000 but it just would not work. Mostly it acted like a plow and just pushed a clump of snow instead of drawing it into augers.
Is this normal for for the kinda 'sticky' snow we had? The blower's a Woods so I would think it has a time tested design.

I actally thought I might enjoy a storm or two with the new equipment, but I sure am dissapointed!

EMERY,
from what i have read, a snow blower only works well in dry fluffy snow.
a blade works better for a heavy wet snow like you describe.

I assume your blower is a 2-stage w/ a high speed fan(?). Are you turning it a the recommended PTO RPM? I've been using 3 pt blowers for years through all snow conditions and have always found them superior to a blade - which I also have and use for a quick clean up sometimes if there is a light snow of only an inch or so. Haven't had the problem you're refering to - usually just slow the tractor down a bit for heavy/wet snow.

yes it is 2 stage and I'm running pto at 540rpm. I'm under the impression that it is dangerous to run pto at faster speed.

You said you were running the tractor at 2000 rpm; that would be slower than PTO speed, wouldn't it?

Emery, This is not normal. I've pushed all kinds of snow through my blower without ever clogging. I've even run it through 18" of slush. I have an Agro Trend with an 18" secondary stage and a 10" chute. Sounds like you are going too fast if the snow piles up in front of the blower. Slow down and make sure you are at pto speed. Are you sure the second stage is working? If it is, time for a call to the dealer, maybe he'll take it back. Let him know you're not happy. How much snow did you get?

Good point, Bird.

I had to look it up in my manual (too far from my tractor to look at the tach), and it sez engine speed of 2430 rpm to get PTO speed of 540.

I know B's and L's are different in many ways, but how do they stack up on rpm's?

This was my first time with a snowblower also. I have a JD
855 with a 48"blower on the front and it just keep plugging up. So far snow blowers don't impress me.

What range/gear are you using? The wetter the snow the slower you go.

I was in low range ,I tried going slow then tried going fast same thing.
