I was given a 30 gallon plastic tank 3pt sprayer with a PTO roller pump. It has been sitting out for a few years not being used. The tank has vertical cracks on each end 6-8" long. They have been there for some time and repair had been attempted with fiberglass cloth and resin. Today I filled it up with water and the cracks leaked under the repair. The resin and fiberglass came off easily. I don't think it ever bonded with the plastic. Has anyone had luck repairing these plastic spray tanks? Someone I know mentioned JB weld or various 2 part epoxys for plastics. I know most of these tanks are resistant to chemicals which makes repair even more difficult because bonding with adhesives becomes an issue. Any ideas or experiences would be much appreciated.

Those tanks don't repair very well.. here's what i'd do... remove the old patch.. get a tube of epoxy putty marked for plastic repair.. hard to find.. but available.. drill the ends of the crack with a 1/4" drillbit to stop them from running.. lightly sand the area then clean with alcohol.. let it dry.

Apply the epoxy putty as a bead and massage in.

Now.. here's the tricky part.. if the tank flexes much.. the patch can pop off. if you can reach in thru the top of the tank and access the sides, then you have a good chance at applying an inside patch that will make it water tight. Get some inner tube rubber and rtv silicone... wipe downthe inside of the crack with alcohol.. rtv the heck out of a piece of rubber.... reach in and apply it and smooth it out with your hand... it will be flexible, and the water pressure on it will push it toward the crack when full.

If you can't get enough of a hand / arm in there for all that.. if you can at least smear some rtv up and down the cracks on the inside it will go a long ways to sealing it.. perhaps a child or woman with smaller / longer arms might be able to apply the rtv?

good luck, that tank is going to have micro fractures all around the main set of fractures...Soundguy gives good advice only thing I would add is make your patch twice the size you think you need. Give it a chance to cover an area where their may not be and micro fractures.
