Here are a couple of pictures of what I got accomplished this weekend. Everything is just tacked together. Any suggestions or comments before I start with the permanent welds?

I plan to add a piece of flat plate across the bottom like a snow plow cutting edge and adding chain grab hooks. I will be putting a snatch block off the end of the reese hitch to run the cable through.

I like the concept, but it looks like the 2 inch receiver is going to be too high to attach to a trailer, if I understand this correctly. You could put it down low, below the whinch. You could still use it for the snatch block and for towing. Just a thought.

the snatch block needs to held up high so you get a little lift on the front of the log your trying to skid.

looks good but those tac welds will never hold :D (needs LOTS more weld)

Will the three point arms be able to hold up under the strain of skidding logs, especially if you're at some kind of angle? I'd thought about doing something like that but the idea of torquing my 3PH arms and assembly kept me from doing it. What do you think out there, TBN brain trust?

Just a thought - If you mount the winch to the receiver, you could weld another hitch onto your front bucket and be able to move the winch from the back to the front end to add versatlity. You could also remove and use the winch between other vehicles that have a hitch.

A wide blade at the bottom will give your 3ph added support and stability when you are pulling. Keep an eye on your top link too. Lots of force can be transferred to this area.

Not sure how big your tractor is or how big you are planning to pull, but keep the load low and speed slow when skidding. Also if you have rough areas to skid thru, you can drop the log and then winch it back to you after you get thru the rough areas with your tractor.

I have to say that the idea that putting snatch blocks up high is looking for trouble. Unless you are very close to what you are pulling, like trying to clear a stump or root, the difference in the angle of pull is so small when you have your line out that the difference in pulling isn't that much. It is too hard on the top link as it actually pulls much harder on the top link as the the lift links become the pivot point, especially if you have a blade in the ground. The tractor is designed to pull with the lift links. The top link basically is only there to stabilize the forward-back tipping of the emplement, and in some tractors draft control. Having a winch at or above the top link is putting more strain on the tractor than it was ever designed for. Beside the fact that if the line breaks it has a much better chance of coming at you at eye level. It is natural for the line to want to come up if you are pulling over the top of a pulley and down if you are underwinding on a winch.
I am sure that folks that have winches with the high pulleys will tell you that they have to back the winch to the material if they need to clear an object.

I think AndyMa posted this pic. He's got the same setup I do, 2120 with Farmi winch, but I don't have a picture of the winch at work so I used his. With the pull up high it digs the blade into the ground to stop the tractor from sliding backwards. So that part should be ok. Make sure to set it up so you can be off to the side when operating it in case of cable breakage.

I would weld some gussets from the back of the plate the winch is setting on to the back/top of the tower making a triangle (looking at it from the side). Seems to me, as it is it may fold up under strain.
