John Deere 4300 HST
I have a JD 4300 HST. I had the 3rd SCV installed to raise the Mid mount mower. I did not like using the 2nd SCV due to the hoses hanging under the tractor. My question to anyone with the 3rd SCV. Should the lever return to center position on it's own? Mine does not. To raise to the full up or down position you must hold and return to center when raised or lowered. Is this normal? Can it be changed?

Part of the problem is the design of the 3rd SCV itself. It is cable operated rather than attached directly to the hydraulic valve. I had some loosening the locknut that hold the handle in place and lubricating it real well. It seemed to return to the neutral position a little better. But It will never feel or work as well as the DSCV lever which is attached directly to the hydraulic valve assembly. This is one feather I hope they improve upon in future tractors. At least Deere is using better glue to hold the rubber piece to the lever. On my 4300 two years ago the rubber piece would come off in my hand 4 or 5 times when I mowed. On my new 4400 the rubber piece stays on at least for now. The 3rd SCV was not Deere's best work.

You should have to hold it to raise and lower, then have it return to a "neutral" position when released. Maybe not center, but at least neutral.

If your lever is stiff, remove the black plastic cover from the control lever. You'll see 4 white plastic disks where the lever meets the base. DO NOT LUBRICATE THEM. Using the proper size wrench, loosen the bolt/nut that acts as the lever's pivot until the control works freely, but without excess play.
