4\' brush hog

I have a 4' woods brush hog on my b6200 and was wondering the correct setup for the front of the hog. I have the rear height adjusted by the rear wheel adjustment but not shure how to adjust the front. At times the front will dig into the ground and the whole cutter will lift up. I tried to adjust it with the 3 point height but the lifting arms seem to creap down after a period of time. Any ideas ??? the manual does not help too much.

Have you adjusted the top link? I adjust the toplink so the rear wheel is on the ground and the cutter is level. Sometimes diggging in is unavoidable if the ground is rough. I just lift the cutter up with the 3 point. Some finish mowers use check chains that go from the toplink bracket on the tractor to the lower link pins on the mower. They set the lowest position that the mower can go. They help to keep the implement from swinging back and forth too.

Re: 4\' brush hog

Does that B6200 have depth control on the 3PH? I assume it does. Even if it doesn't, you can use the hydraulics to help you. Set your rear wheel for the height you want, then on a flat area level the deck using the top and tilt links . Use your lift to almost pick the rear wheel off the ground, but not quite, and make sure the deck is still level with the ground. If not, readjust the top link. I used that procedure with my old 2N without depth control (draught control) and now on my 4100 with it. It takes a lot of pressure off the top link and cutter frame, and seems to keep the front of the deck from sagging and digging in. If your terrain is really rough, just raise the deck a little if you think you might dig in or scalp.

Re: 4\' brush hog

Well, the top link on the brush hog pivots foreward and backwards so the top link does not control it very much. The purpose for this is crossing a ditch line or climbing a hill, this allows the tractor to ascend while the hog is still level on the ground. I think that I have position control but it will creep down after a period of time. You just adjust the stop pin at the lift control lever. Its possible I might have a problem with an internal seal thats supposed to hold pressure or something.

I have the same problem, I also have a b6200 4WD with a woods 48 bush hog. I also can't seem to keep the front of the tractor down on a slight incline. Have three suitcase weights on the front but it still wants to lift slightly off the ground so not to let me steer. As for your problem there is two wing nuts under the seat on the three point lift lever for top and bottom stops, on mine at least. But I still am constantly adjusting the hight to keep form cutting the earth.

Re: 4\' brush hog

That being the case I think I would check out check chains. A set of metal tabs with keyholes in them attach to the bolt or pin that holds the top of the top link. the lower end of the chains attach to the front of the mower. the chains feed through at keyhole in the metal tab. You set the mower hight and take up the slack in the chain at the keyholes. Then the chain keeps the mower from going any lower.
