I was told by a JD dealer that I could have a switch on the FEL Joystick to control the 4-in-1. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks,
Keith

I have a Fasse valve and their joystick control on my 4300. In three years use, 700 hours on the tractor, I have only had to replace one O-ring in the valve. The joystick mounted switch works very nicely. After using it, I doubt that I would be happy with using the third scv to control the 4in1 bucket.

The dealer installed it when I purchased the tractor and loader. If memory serves, it can be ordered through John Deere parts.

Do you have a picture of it? I have a separate joystick and valve mounted on the fender, it does work but it's not the best solution in the world. Also the valve is cast iron so it's already rust covered. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The Fasse valve, which is a small button on top of the joystick lever, is a special install option by John Deere. The standard install option is a lever installed through the plastic housing directly in front of the FEL joystick (see pic attached). When I purchased my JD 4710 I inquired about the Fasse valve install. I was told it was a very expensive dealer install (about $800) and the dealer convinced me it just wasn't worth it. I believe the Fasse valve is a convenient option to have and would make operating the FEL's third function easier. However, cost economics dictated I would be better off using the $800 or so on another implement. I bought some JD forks instead. I don't regret this decision. The standard install lever is easy enough to use and I'm satisfied with it.

I agree with Rancar. I have used my 4in1 extensively and have had no problems or inconvenience without the joystick button. Use the money for an implement!

Sorry, but I don't have a picture.

The Fasse valve (actually a bank of two electrically actuated valves) is mounted in front of the loader mount on the right hand side of the tractor. It is controlled by a Fasse supplied joystick knob, which replaces the standard knob on the dual scv joystick.

The valve bank is connected to the two hydraulic outlets ordinarily used for the bucket. The bucket hoses are connected to two of the four outlets on the Fasse valve and the 4in1 hoses are connected to the remaining outlets.

On the knob are three switches and a pilot light. One is an on-off switch, one is not used in my application, and the third is a momentary button located under my right thumb.

In use, depressing the button under the thumb transfers the hydraulic power from the bucket to the 4in1, allowing it to be controlled by the bucket circuit of the dual scv.

I don't think that you have anything to worry about if the surface of the body rusts. Of course, you could clean it up with a wire brush, mask the spools and any exposed rubber, and paint it.

Hope this helps,

My son visited this weekend and brought his digital camera. This is the joystick knob.

Kind of an odd-looking critter - but if I read between the lines of your description - this provides a 3rd function without tying up the "real" 3rd SCV channel (which I assume can still be in place and routed to the rear for uses out back - yes? no?).

Is this Fasse valve arrangement actually the 3rd/4th 4th/5th "electric diverter valve" listed in the options by JD (LVB25091) to add "additional" SCV circuits to (nominally the rear) of the tractor? Or is this an entirely separate option?

Yes. In fact, that is the way that my tractor is set up (see the attachment).

I don't know if John Deere uses a Fasse valve or the valve of another manufacturer to deliver the 4th and 5th scv option. The valve itself is continuous duty and I suspect that it could be used for that purpose by using a different electrical switch in place of the green thumb button.

Years ago, you could buy manual diverter valves in the farm supply stores. I suspect that they could also have been used to add the additional remotes, although they wouldn't be as convenient as the electric valves.
