Rhino International
Was wondering if anyone has ever ran into this. I have a Rhino International 404 and today when I went out to plow the snow my 4 WD did not work. I know it was working when I parked it last fall. Well long story short I got it into the garage and pulled the front drive shaft to verify that 1. It was actually in 4 WD. Lever was indicating it was 2. was to make sure the front gear case was engaged. Well they both felt like they were so I put the drive shaft back on and was taking it out back to park in the shed as I didn't have time to mess with it anymore. It started working and stayed in 4 WD while I plowed the drive. I have never had this happen before and am wondering if/when it happens again if anyone has any ideas what would cause this.

I know nothing of the Rhino but it sounds like there is a temporary disconnect or slipping in the linkage between the 4WD actuating lever and the gears. This could also have something to do with the oil & grease getting stiff from the cold. I'll bet if you would have run the unit up/down the driveway to "warm it up" - it would have gone in 4WD with no problems. Is your statement correct, in that the unit has been parked and not run since last fall? Oil & grease can get mighty stiff in that period of time - particularly in the cold. The other thought - there may be something in the linkage that needs greasing.

Thanks oosik. I will keep that in mind if it happens again. Yes the tractor hasnt been used since late summer so it has been sitting a while.
