Getting pricing to rent a 40' shipping container to store building materials for a future house/garage build. So far about $170 per month for the rental and $450 delivery an $450 pickup fee. It's in a rural area so container is coming from 150 miles away.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Located in Northern Arizona

$900 alone for drop off and pick up. 1 year use = 2,040 If due to covid and supply delays, 2 year use = 4,080.

In my area, 53-foot shipping container to purchase outright with free delivery (50 miles) right now is $2,250. And you can even pick 1 of 5 colors!

When done, you can sell it back to them for 1/2 the price or on CL or FB. Or convert to a nice storage shed and paint it yourself and place trim onto it too.

Sizes less than 53-foot are even CHEAPER !

It looks expensive to me. Wouldn't it be cheaper to build a temporary barn on your own to store materials?

Just before I retired in April, a used 40' can was CAN$3,500 if you could find one, couple of months before that they were CAN$3,000......Mike

Not out here in the southwest. Shipping to my rural area will not be cheap (hence $450) since all containers are coming out of the main city, Phoenix. If I could buy a container for $2,250, I would buy it.

I'll probably need the container for 1 year so $2,940 total for rental, delivery, and pickup for a 40' container.

A 40' used cargo container is running $4,500 plus shipping. So about $5k

You are lucky to find someone willing to rent you a unit. Can are worth more than gold now with the pandemic.

Won't ever happen here. We live (and farm) in a zoned area and our zoning prohibits them. I'm good with that because zoning protects the value of your real estate investment.

We don't do the 'Green Acres' crap here.

Not only because of pandemic. Europe is overloaded with illegal migrants. The containers are swept from everywhere for making the residentials for them. You can't find a single one of any dimension to purchase (I need one). The prices are terrible.

Not quite sure about all the hoopla over storage containers repurposed for equipment storage anyway. My main storage barn is a Clearspan truss arch fabric building that has been erected for over 15 years now, isn't an eyesore (like a old shipping container is) and in our zoned area is a perfectly legal conforming structure. They aren't as inexpensive as when I purchased mine over 15 years ago but still not that expensive. I paid 5200 for mine, it's 75 feet long x 42 foot wide x 15 foot high with a roll up 14 x 10 door at one end and a man door at the other. My wife and I put it up with the help of one of the front end loaders. I'm sure they cost more today than beck then but for longevity versus price, certainly better than some crummy old container with very limited headroom. I can actually park a full size tractor trailer in mine. I store all my tractors and implements in it plus my bagged fertilizer and all 3 lawnmowers and 2 tillers.
