i noticed on the install of the loader 2 items i would appreciate some discussion . #1 - the cylinders for the unit are a black colored steel - in the past i notice4d all cylinders to be chrome . #2 the pins on the unit are plastic - almost all of them except for a couple - these others seem to be aluminum .

The black is better than chrome. I think it is Nitrile? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I will try and find a reference to it...

Plastic isn't always bad, I won't give up my plastic hood for ANYTHING. But I dunno about those pins at all....

The cylinder rods are made of nitride, which has superior corrosion resistance compared to the usual ones.

I have a 400CX loader, and I can't think of a single plastic part on it. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif To which pins are you referring?

the pins for most of the cylinders are plastic- the alum, ones are only at the bucket and the top post . Now if they are only coverered in a plastic ? but i did have to loosen a few to install the tip indicator and that is when the plastic was found . the pin and the head are plastic. they may have a sleeve ? unsure at this time . just thought i would ask the board . A lot of knowledge base here .

Does the pin look like this (see attachment)? Those pins are definitely not plastic.

Perhaps you noticed a coating of the JD multipurpose grease, probably purple in colour. The grease fitting (zerk) is integral to the pin, with a machined groove near the middle of the shaft to distribute the grease evenly. This is the only explanation I can think of...
