I took delivery of my 4010 in April '03 and noticed that the front tires seemed smaller than I thought they should be. Other than the look which bothers me, I am forced to jack the tractor up to clear my MMM when attaching or detaching it. I'm also concerned about stress on the MFWD and the proper tire speed ratio.

My current tire size:
R3 (Turf) 20x8.00-10
Titan Multi Trac C/S

Also they are smaller than all of the pictures I viewed during my research (attached).

On top of this, the online owners manual and the owners manual I received both state that the tires should be:

22x9.00-12

I called my dealer and they said I have the correct size and it's the only size they could order. I contacted Deere directly and they noticed the discrepency as well but assured me that engineering showed that I have the correct tire. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

If I had known that R3's were this small I probably would have gone with R4's.

I don't know how this can result in the proper ratio. Has anyone else gotten different size tires?

Here is a link to Titan Multi Trac C/S tire sizes. Click Here
I would be concerned about the load capacity of the 2 different tire sizes. 895 versus 1110 lbs. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Rolling circumference is 4 inches difference.
My $.02 is you need the larger size. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

snAKes,

I'm at the office so I don't know the size of my tires, but I do know that I DON'T have to jack the tractor in order to get the mmm on or off. One of the things I like about the design of the MMM and how it attaches (other's have a much different opinion on this subject) is that if you're on cement or another hard surface, it's very easy to install/remove the mmm. Having to jack the tractor takes much of the ease away.

In addition to the concerns you listed, I would be concerned with the height of the mmm when raised all the way up. As with most CUT's there isn't a lot of ground clearance when the mower is attached to begin with so any reduction in that height would be an issue.

A dealer not knowing the proper tire size doesn't shock me. I've had my own experiences in that department--but that's another thread.

I can check the size tonight if no other members are able to get the stats.

I imagine it is because they are the R3s. I am surprised at how much the tire sizes vary according to the type you order. The documentation probably all references the proper size for R1s.

One way to be sure is check out the configurator on the JD site and see what it says for the size of the R3s.

The configurator only lets me choose the smaller tires.

Clicking the "i" by tires in the configurator lists all of the dimensions and this looks even more suspicious.

For the front tires, the outside diameters are
(R1, R3, R4)
(20.5, 18.8, 20.58)

For all 3 rear tires, the outside diameters are
(R1, R3, R4)
(28.34, 27.18, 27.80)

The resulting ratios front/rear are:
(R1, R3, R4)
(.723, .692, .740)

This ratio for the R3's is not the same as the other tire combinations! This will not result in the same speed ratios between the fronts and the rears!

I just don't know how to go about convincing someone that I need to get the bigger tires (for free).

I think my best arguments are that my MMM won't fit under the tractor, and my owner's manual lists different sizes. Ground clearance with the MMM on is another good one.

Any other ideas? Attached is a picture of my tractor - you can tell the tires are smaller than the ones shown in my first post.

Thanks for your replys.

I've got a 4110 with R4s that I use the 60" mmm with. Although I CAN get the mower on and off with all 4 wheels on the ground, I've found it's MUCH easier to mount and remove the mower once I've lifted the front end of the tractor off the ground with the FEL.
In my situation, the height of the tractor is not really and issue. The distance between the front tires and the rear tires is just tight enough that the mower barely fits between them with all 4 wheels on the ground.
I just wanted to mention that, becuase you may gain a little tractor height with a larger tire, but you'll likely lose a little front to back space by doing this.

snAKes,

Well--I checked my front tires last night. I have the same tires as you do 20/8/10 and my manual clearly states 20/9/12 /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Although your profile doesn't say for sure, the last picture you attached shows you have a 60 inch mower--correct? I've got the 54 inch mower so that may be the reason I can get the mower on/off without jacking the tractor.

I'll call my dealer, but I'm sure I'll get the same reply as you.

Question to Moderators or Forum Master----Can I print this thread off and fax to my dealer or is there an issue with doing this?

The fit of the 60" MMM between the front & rear tires is close enough that I have to turn the anti-scalp wheels sideways, which I would do anyway to make it roll out easier. That's a good point Heath but I think I'll still have enough room front-to-back.

The problem is the gearbox that the PTO shaft connects to is nearly an inch too tall and I have to jack the tractor up to clear it, or use the FEL if it's on. I've tried raising the 2 anti-scalp wheels on the back but it's still not enough. Possibly if I remove the spacers from the one on the front right as well I could get it out, but that's not easy and it's not part of the procedure.

I figured there was probably some type of top to bottom hangup involved. I'm looking forward to see if your dealer offers to help. It would be nice if he did. I'm pretty tight with my dealer and I'm not TOO sure that he would trade me a larger wheel size with no extra $$.
I hope things work out for you!

4110/4115 turfs on a 4010?

Has anyone tried front wheels & tires from a 4110 or 4115 on a 4110?

According to the size charts (attached) the outside dimensions are very close to the R4's listed for my 4010, but I'm afraid to order them without trying them. I also have a MMM that I need clearance for.
