I am looking at getting the 4035 but am a little concerned with the weight and HP compared to the 4010. It will be primarily used to cut 13 acres (mostly hilly at 10deg) and some front loader work. The 4010 is quite a bit lighter with similar HP and a little cheaper. Thoughts?

Well, there are quite a few Fayettevilles throughout the country so I cannot tell the tree type indigenous to the area. Tree size will determine which of the two to get. With loaded tires, the 4010 will handle trees in the 20"-24" dbh pretty easily. If your trees are larger than that, I would be thinking the 4035 for 13 acres. This oak stem weighs around 1700lbs. The 3016 handles it no problem as it brings it to the splitter. It also skidded this tree in two turns. One for the trunk and one for the crown as the forest was still densely populated. It pulls 5 to 6 cord out in in about 8-10 hrs.

Really I think a lot of the differences amount to bells and whistles. The 35 series is their premium line of compact utility tractors. It is a little more powerful, a little heavier, has a bit more reach and lift capacity, larger tires, bit more hydraulic flow. I'm not 100% sure but I think the 4010 comes with hard lower links on the 3 point, I'm quite sure the 4035 has the telescoping (is what I have and love them). I think the open station 4010 also has a non-foldable ROPS which the 4035 is foldable (didn't matter to me, but it you have a low door to pass through it matters).

Working on hills, having larger tires and having them loaded with fluid lowers the center of gravity of the entire machine and assists stability greatly.

When your working downed trees, bigger is always better. I was looking at a used26 hp Kubota for my first tractor to clear the mess the loggers left after taking my pine trees. Instead I bought a 54 hp Ford 3055 and those trees still would gain the upper hand from time to time. I was so glad I bought bigger than what I thought I needed.

Our neighbor has both a 10 series and a 35 series Mahindra. The 10 series has a cab and the 35 series is open station. Our farms have rolling farm land with wooded mountains. I asked him for his opinion regarding the 2 machines. He said hands down the 35 series is a better overall tractor. According to him the 35 series weighs substantially more, has a wider stance, can lift more at both ends and feels less tippy when using the loader and bush hogging or haying. He is actually trying to sell the 10 series tractor so he can buy a cab equipped 35 series. By the way, both his tractors are 50 hp tractors. He said they are two very different tractors. he let me try them and I have to agree that the 35 series feels more reassuring to drive.

FYI... The 10 series is a rebadged TYM (TYM 433 with different engine), and the 35 is actually a Mahindra build. May be able to find additional insight in the TYM forum...?
