4020 power issues

I have an early JD 4020 diesel. At the beginning of the summer, it started to run a little doggy and I noticed a little more smoke under load. I had serviced it over the winter and of course changed all of the filters and engine oil. I thought maybe the fuel filters needed changed, so I changed them again. No help, thought maybe one or more bad injectors, cracked each line waiting for a stutter, never got one, so I changed the injection pump. It is up to 50+ percent of power, and sounds and runs better, but is still doggy under load. Before I change all of the injectors does anyone have any other advise?

did you have the pump checked, or just replaced. pump could be bad or out of time

Have you flushed the tank out yet? You may be running with water in the fuel? Did you change the air cleaner? There isn't to much to make those tractors run. If you have fuel and air, I'd do a compression test next. If that all seems fine I would be looking at the transmission possibly.

Make sure that you have full fuel delivery. The strainer in the tank can clog and restrict fuel flow. Make sure that your air filter is clear. Power production takes both fuel AND air. Next check compression.

What yr model 4020? are you positive IP is timed correctly? Do you have a pencil size fuel flow from tank? Has air cleaner been serviced lately?

+1 on servicing the air cleaner. Sometimes we can't see the forrest for the trees!
