I was wondering if cleaning the transmission srceen requires a complete transmission drain? The screen is located on the bottom and appears to allow the transmission to drain if the cover is removed. If this is the case I guess that just changing the filter, cleaning the screen and replacing the lubricant ( I already have this on site) is the best thing to do. It would sure be nice to just clean the screen and be done with it. This is the 50 hour cleaning as per the maintenance schedule. The "filter" change is not reccomended until the 1000 hour mark. Sure would like some advice from someone that has been down this road.

If it is set up like the 4530 you are going to drain the fluid. Cleaning the screen at the 50 hour mark is important. Any metal chips, shavings or filings from the manufacturing process will land up in the screen. Don't be alarmed when you take the screen out and see this kind of stuff.

I recomend changing the hydraulic/trans fluid at the 50 hour mark. Let the filter go to the recommended 1,000 hour mark. I don't know the price of yours but I know the filter for the 4530 is somewhere around $75.00.

I was pretty sure that the whole change would be the best option. I already have the fluid and the complete filter package for all the filters (both air, oil, power steering, transmission and fuel) comes in at less than $175.00 from "Bills tractor" here in Texas. I am familiar with shavings in the screen and understand how they got there. My buddy was talked into a new transmission for his truck when the shop showed him the shavings in the pan during a routine fluid change a few years back. Thanks for the advice.
