Greetings everyone! It's been a while since I have posted here, mostly because my 4035 has been very good to me. Though I have hit a small problem. Last weekend I started the tractor while it was very cold. 10 degrees and less. It was idling in the barn at about 1500 RPM for 5 to 10 minutes. I slowly cycled the loader up and down, incrememtally, until it was moving smoothly. Also, curled the bucket several times, in the same fashion as the loader, until it too moved smoothly.
I put the tractor into gear and dropped the bucket to clear snow from the front of the barn while pulling out. Then I picked up the bucket and started to curl it to dump the snow and then it happened.... the stall. I figured it would. I attempted to start it again, and nothing. The engine would crank, but it wouldn't turn over. It wouldn't even sputter. I cycled what I thought were the glow plugs twice and tried to start it again. Nothing.
This was the first major problem I have had so I had reasearch to do. My first guess was that the fuel gelled, so i put some Diesel 911 (the red bottle stuff) in the fuel. I bought a new fuel filter ($48) and waited until today to change it. I did put the fuel treatment in mid-week and tried flushing it through the fuel filter with the attached pump with the drain at the bottom of the fuel filter opened and draining into a 5 gallon pail. I pumped through about 1/2 a gallon of fuel and tried to start it again just after this addition. Nothing.
Today I spent half the day changing the fuel filter, removing the highpressure fuel piping (which I blew out with compressed air incase there was gelled fuel in them). I re-installed everything then started to bleed the system. I bled the filter at the top and bottom. The banjo bolts at the filter to the FIP. Then the banjo at the FIP. Then I bled the cleaned out high pressure pipes at the injectors. It should also be noted that it hit 40 degrees (F) today.
All of that and still nothing. I attempted to remove the injectors, but couldn't figure out how. I removed a nut that is just below all three which allows a fork type bracket to move. This seems to be what is holding the injectors, but they wouldn't budge. I bolted it all back together and started looking up whatever else I could find. This is how I came to the conclusion that there are no glow plugs in this engine, but an electric intake manifold heater instead.
Now I am truly lost. The cost I found online for this heater is around $250. How do I tell if this thing is working? Should it have burned out after just 2 years (I have about 70 hours on the tractor). Dealers, is this covered under the 5 year warranty? What if it is working, where do I go from here?
Thank you all for taking the time to read my little tractor murder mystery. I eagerly await your input. Merry Christmas to all.
