Used the tractor to load some junk into the bed of my truck this morning and noticed that lighty pulling back on shuttle lever without clutching the tractor will move forward or reverse. Not sure if it would be a shuttle lever adj. or clutch adj. free play on the peddle seems good. I have done my share of loader work this winter and in the past and never have adj. the clutch . tractor has about 250+ Hours and I never ride the clutch. I just noticed this today and I guess I have never pulled on the shuttle lever without clutching before. Any suggestions ?

Here's one. Don't do that! By doing so you're forcing rotating parts against parts which are at rest, causing the parts at rest to "drag along". Not at all what the synchronizer is designed to do. The lifespan of the wear surfaces in your synchronizers is short enough already, don't abuse them.

Thanks Harry in Ky. A very good suggestion. I guess it just surprised me when it happened and it is not S.O.P. for me. I am not even sure why I did it but when the tractor moved it got my attention quick.

You don't have the "power shuttle' where you do not have to step on the clutch for forward or reverse by any chance?

No power shuttle, Shuttle only.

I am wondering if "part" of the shift design they put on shuttles incorporates hardware of the power shuttle as a cost saving feature. I'm thinking it could be an anomaly inherent to the design of the system. The tractor did what it was supposed to do (move with clutch engaged) when you shifted. One way to check for sure if he is not too far away is to go to the dealer and sit on he same tractor that is a shuttle as well.
Hopefully, with there being plenty of 4035 owners on the forum, one might share their experience with a shuttle on these tractors.

If your range and shifter is in gear you will be able to push on the shuttle and make it move... if your in low rpms and push hard enough it will even go into gear...... just like shifting a truck with out using a clutch...

Do not do this.

if i push my shuttle lever forward or backward without clutching it will make a grinding sound, never pushed it hard enough to go in gear though. 4035 sst

I found a small blip in the operators manual that says that it is normal and warns that the tractor will move. Funny I read a lot and must have missed it some how. I think it was near the dos and don't section imagine that! Thanks everyone.
