This is a new machine and I'm trying to do a parked cleaning since I don't use the machine very often. I did a parked cleaning at 20 hours and it went fine; soot was at around 55% when I cleaned. Tried another today at 34 hours. I've got the tractor parked, engine up to temperature and at low idle, parking brake on, transmission in neutral, PTO off. I push and hold the exhaust filter cleaning switch down, the LED above it lights but goes out after 5 seconds; it doesn't blink like it's supposed to. I've got to be doing something wrong but I just don't get it. Soot is only 45%. Could that be it...maybe too low? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

My guess is that there is a certain point (above 45%) before it will regenerate

My 3038e manual says Do not disable Auto mode unless absolutely necessary. Mine has cleaned one time in 46 hours, display had 70 percent when auto activated.

I'm sure it will regenerate automatically at some point. However, my dealer told me that it is important to do a
parked regen if the machine is not used a lot. Perhaps, I'm overdoing it and should just wait until it regens on auto.

My manual says the same. I did not disable the auto mode since it is the default. There is no need to disable auto mode when doing a parked regen. I'm guessing I should just leave it alone and let
the machine handle it for me. I'd like to know why the parked regen won't kick off though.

For at least this one "uninformed" member, what is this process "Parked Exhaust Filter Cleaning" that you speak of ??

Must be for new tractors, but what does it do and why? just curious...

Beenthere, my understanding the exhaust on the lower hp JD tractors,(under 90 hp I think) have an exhaust filter that needs to be cleaned periodically. The higher rpm you operate at on a regular basis the less it needs cleaning, my 5065e & 3038e both have this feature, this process is performed by the engine with no action required by operator. The dealer gave me this info so I hope it is correct.

In a nutshell exhaust filter cleaning is part of the new emissions control "features" on new machines. The system uses engine heat to burn up particulates captured by the exhaust filter. It is normally an automatic process. However, if you don't use your machine often or if you don't allow the automatic cleaning, then you need to do a parked cleaning. All you do is push a button and the machine handles the rest.

You are correct!

The first time the 3038 did it I was grading a drive with land plane and tractor would not idle down so I investigated and found out that this was a normal process. When the 5065 did it the first time it smelled hot but I did not notice the 3038 smelling hot.
