4100 battery cable \"extension\"

Has someone put an extension on the battery cables (or maybe just the positive) on a 4100. My thought is that if it fails to start its going to be on a very cold misereable day and getting to the battery to jump start or to even maybe to keep a charge maintainer on it would be nice to have a convenient location to hookup. Any ideas of how not to have the positive exposed to shorting out?
Thanks
Dan

Re: 4100 battery cable \"extension\"

I have an extension on the positive terminal on my JD4200. I use it when I want to hook up an electric winch without getting under the hood and removing the grill. I took a 40 inch piece of battery cable (switch to start 4 gauge with ring terminals on each end)and hooked it to the positive terminal and led it under the side panel. I covered the exposed ring terminal with a length of rubber hose that I can slip up the cable when I need power. I have had it that way for 4 years and never had a problem. It would serve the purpose of providing a location for a jump start or battery charger as well as a location to hook up an electric winch.
