Greetings gents.

Before I purchased a JD4105 I read debates on the plastic vs. metal hood and fender issue. Then I bought the 4105.

Several months ago I was trickle charging the battery with the hood up and a huge gust of wind blew the hood back toward the steering wheel and cracked it clean through in 2-3 different directions. I can barely operate it now.

I called a JD dealer and he said he would order the part and get back to me. One month later I had not heard from them so I called. They had the part but had not remembered to call so they set up a time to come out and put it on. The cost, gulp... was $712 just for the part exclusive of decals.

They came out but had a hood with a different hinge configuration so they had to go back and see what they could do. Still waiting one week later for a call.

Are these hoods repairable? If you have repaired any plastic parts I would appreciate hearing your advice and experience as I am a bit tired of dealing with the dealer and the delays.

Thanks guys.

Anybody that does fiberglass or composite repair should be able to repair it to the original shape and strength. The problem will be whether or not you're satisfied with paint. These hoods are moulded out of green composite, the shine is likely clearcote. After a composite repair, subsequent paint matching and clearcote will be necessary

How about insurance? My homeowner coverage would pay for that, less the $100 deductible
