The question...
JD 4110. I don't have the service manual or a schematic for the tractor. My question is, does depressing the switch activate a relay or other circuit that may put a low current drain on the battery even when the tractor is "off"?
The back story...
First, I know I am due for a new battery based on the fact that the tractor is a 2002/2003 model, and I believe the battery is original. But the battery has not given me a bit of trouble until...
...I got tired of having the engine killed each time the seat was unweighted. This happens when my petite wife has to move forward on the seat to reach the pedals, or I get off the tractor to load something in the bucket without putting it in neutral...
...so I took a piece of light gauge sheet stock, placed it over seat safety switch and its mounting bracket and zip tied it in place. The result is that the switch is always depressed as if someone is sitting on the seat...
A week and a half later, the battery died. Coincidence? (tractor was not operated for that period.)
