Hello all -
Recently, I had noted that the hydrostatic transmission on our 4110 tractor was whining a lot. We have about 75 hours on it.
I checked the fluid level using the technique described in the manual (run until warm, park on level surface, wait an hour, and eyeball the window on the back of the tractor). No fluid was showing. I confirmed this by checking the transmission dipstick as well.
Per the manual instructions, I slowly added fluid until it showed 1/2 way up in the window. As I've written this, I've realized I didn't check via the dipstick.
Anyway, to test, I ran the tractor around the yard for about 5 minutes, then parked on the driveway again, planning on checking the level again. When I came back, I noted a small puddle of liquid on the ground, underneath the rear axle transmission area. I crawled under, and see oil coming down the left side of the transmission from up high - I couldn't see the exact source.
All that said - back to my question.... Is there some sort of an "overflow" drain or hose that could be releasing fluid because I overfilled? Or do I likely have a leak - either a problem, or one that I induced by possibly overfilling?
It was getting dark and rainy, so I haven't had a chance to further evaluate my work. I'll check the levels again tomorrow.
Any hints / tips or suggestions gratefully accepted.
Thank you in advance for any assistance offered.
