Just mowed for the first time with my new 4110. My hydro transmission seems to growl. It does it with or without the mower engaged. Seems to be much more quite under load, like pulling up my hills. When I tiurn around and go down the hills I get a whiney growling noise. It does it in both ranges, hi and low. Has anybody ever had this? Is it normal? I dont like it, it is annoying. thanks.

Normal Yes... My 4310 eHydro makes some interesting noises, and like you, I've noticed it most when making slow turns and going up hills. It may be annoying now but as you acclimate to it I doubt you'll notice it as much. As long as you know the fluid is at a good level I think you'll learn to accept the noise. I rarely even notice it now. Just out of curiosity what rpm are you typically running at?

I notice it at about 2650 rpm, 540 pto range. But mine is worse going DOWN HILLS. Sounds like my old case gear tractor. Do they all do this? Yes the hydro fluid is at the correct level. Should I just use it and not worry about it? thanks, D

Yeah, it dosen't sound right to me. Mine makes a louder noise when I'm going up hill or when it's under load. If I'm going down hill or it's not under much load, the noise is minimal. Also I notice that if I'm climbing a hill at higher RPM, the noise is not as loud as if I was at a lower RPM. Also while mowing with my 60" MMM I'm not noticing mush noise from the trany since the RPM is pretty high.

Devin,

All hydros whine, sqwuak, squeal, and growl. Does the trannny fluid smell hot or "burned" after using the tractor? Is the machine responsive/quick? Is the power what you would expect? If the hydro oil is fine and the machine performs well, then you are probably fine.

I noticed you had a gear tractor. Is this your first experience with a hydro? I had used some heavy equipment with hydros in the past, but the first small hydro tractor I purchased was about five years ago and I had the same reaction. I got over it. You probably will too. If you are really concerned, get on the phone with your dealer.

Yes, I have a case gear tractor, also a 21 hp cub cadet, a super garden tractor, it is a hydro. I have worn it out, it is almost 15 years old. I still have both of them. I think the noise is less noticable at high rpm's. The fluid is a nice redish pink color. the tractor is new. I am happy with the power, it is very responsive. I love the way it turns. I will mow again next week and keep everybody posted. Could it be because it is new?. Maybe I am expecting too much. I wish the deck would raise higher. I think I could bury the deck in the dirt, with the rockshaft only down to about 7 on the scale. thx for the help, D
