Prior to attaching my new rotary cutter to my 4110, I flipped on the PTO switch(Auto) and pushed the red PTO button. Nothing happened with the PTO. Put the lift arms up, put the lift arms down, and still nothing. Increased the RPMs to 540 level... Still PTO did nothing. Moved the lift arms up, moved them back down. PTO did nothing. Moved the PTO switch to the Manual mode. Pushed the red PTO button. PTO did nothing. Moved the lift arms up, and down, and the PTO still didn't budge. Turned off the tractor, restarted the tractor, tried the whole routine again, and still the PTO did nothing. Turned the tractor back off. Attached the rotary cutter, and hooked up the drive shaft to the PTO. Started the tractor. Put the switch in Auto, put the switch in manual, still the PTO did nothing. Lifted the lift arms up and down. Still nothing. Turned off the PTO switch, and the red button with the tractor still running. Thought and thought about it for a few moments. Turned the switch to Auto, and VOILA! the PTO start working! Mowed for hours with no problems. No other problems since. Anyone else had some "strange" behavior like this? When that PTO is in Manual mode, that PTO should be turning regardless?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I haven't had any problems yet. Yes with the switch in manual and the red pto button depressed the PTO should turn, regardless of 3 pt hitch position, or anything else.

I seem to recall that awhile back there were some posts about the PTO solenoid sticking when it was energized, not engaging the PTO gears.

KenB You have one of two problems. Under the RT side of your passenger platform, look up past the hydraulic lines there and you will see a block protruding from the side of the transmission case with an electric solenoid on the rear of it and a ground wire attached on the side of the block. Make sure the ground wire is making a good connection to the block. This may solve the problem. If it doesn't solve it, on the front of the block there are 3 hex plugs, the upper one that lines up with the solonoid on the rear of the block, remove it and don't lose the spring inside. Stick a screw driver in the hole and push the solonoid piston back, then spray a little penetrating lubricant in the hole and replace the spring and plug. Your PTO problem should be solved. If you are not comfortable doing this call your dealer. Good Luck

I would think that it would be a good idea to energize the solenoid for the electro-hydraulic types of PTOs found on the CUTs every few hours of operation, just to keep them loose and operating correctly.

Ok, I'll ask. What were you hoping to do by moving the lift arms? Whats the connection?

With the PTO switch set in "Auto" mode, the PTO will shut off when the lift arms are raised up.

Same thing happened on my 2810. I had to re-activate the pto by depressing the switch with a stick or nail. Dealer just lubricate the switch or something. Haven't had a problem since.
