Hi, I have a 4110 with FEL, and considering wheel ballast, I do not want to use calcium based fluid because of the concern about rust, are other fluids available at a reasonable cost that is not corrosive?

Thank you

Some people use windshield washer fluid. I have heard of others who add antifreeze.

I have the calcium in my rears. We have tractors here on the farm thiry and forty years old and they have the original wheels, and had calcium in them since they were new.

I had an old To-35 that has calcium in the rear tires. I had to replace an inner rim and had it filled with calcium because I didn't know about the newer liquid they now sell for tires. Anyhow, the other rim then started leaking and I know for a fact this rim was replaced within the last 5 years and also has calcium in it. Between the inner rim and calcium, it was over $500. I sold it and bought a new mahindra because the old massey always had issues. My mahindra dealer told me about what they now load the rear tires with. It's a citrus solution with some type of rim guard which is non-corrosive to the rim itself and friendly to the environment. I can't see paying for something that you know is going to eventually cost you more money in the long run. I would ask your local dealer about the citrus solution.

mine has calcium. 30 yrs is a reasonable expectation from properly filled tires with calcium. They must be filled approx. 1" above top of rim. if there is an air / water intereface on the metal it's gonna rust, probably with antifreeze too.

Just had my rear tires replaced yesterday and they had had methanol/water in them for 5 1/2 years, not a spot of rust inside on either rim. Of course we put the mix back in with the new tires. If you ever had a leak with the water/methanol mix it might be toxic for a little while but I would think the methanol would evaporate very quickly and not pose a problem for more than 1/2 hour or so.
