Mowing 4120 tractor with disk mower

I am thinking of buying a Kuhn GMD 500 6'7" disk mower. How fast can I expect to be able to mow with a disk mower?? Is it faster than a bush hog?? I am mowing grass fields and roadsides.

I have a Krone AM323s and I mow hay at 7mph. With my 15' batwing I rarely go much over 5mph. The disc mower is just laying it over the batwing is chewing it up.

After haying season seems to be when the deals show up.

Another thing you might consider would be a mower caddy. You might can go with a larger mower and it is easier to hook up, etc.

Right now we grain farm about 2,000 acres (corn and soybeans). We have the alfalfa hay custom baled. The disk mower would be used more for my mowing business and roadsides around my home than hay operation

I have never heard of anybody using a disc mower for anything other than hay production. Maybe it is a regional thing.

If you are not using it for haying I would go with just a sickle bar mower. You can get at least a 7 footer and bigger and your tractor will handle it no problem.

I have had a NH 451 7' and JD 350 9' sickle mowers in the past. I may look into buying another.
