3-Point Hitch 4200 3 pt cycling up and down

Burdog, if you read my post #6, I talk about the inline filter. It was added by JD, apparently,
to address problems with getting debris in the the 3-pt valve. You seem to have debris in
your 3-pt valve, so you will have to take it apart and clean it.

I eliminated the inline filter in the photo I posted on my 4300s. It was non-functional
anyway. If you look inside yours, you will be able to see if it is non-functional. You can
pop out the screen if you choose to do so.

Do I have to remove the entire valve from the tractor to clean it? I'm hoping I can leave it on the tractor and just remove the rockshaft valve cover "B" and remove the valve piston head and piston.

I think you can do it on the tractor... but I would highly recommend you get the service (tech) manual before moving ahead so you have the procedure to follow. Well worth the money, IMO.

Take off the 3 bolts and it comes right off. I don't see how you could get into all the passages
without removing it.

Thank you for your help. My plan is to remove the 3pt valve and replace the o rings and clean it. I plan on also checking the filter and changing the oil. Hopefully that will solve my problem.

I'm debating removing the rate of stop valve and rebuilding that as well. When I raise the the mower and close the rate of stop valve the mower stays up without dropping. Does this eliminate the rate of stop valve as the problem?

Thanks again everyone for your help.

That valve seems to be working correctly. It does not hurt, however, to open it up and look for dirty oil. The
rate-of-drop valve only restricts oil draining out of the 3-pt cylinder, so it can not cause the problem that
you report.

That helps a ton thank you!
