Hello all,

Fired up my 4200 this past weekend and quickly noticed the power steering was responding normally. After getting out of the garage I went to lift the FEL and found it was barley going up. I increased the throttle to about half and noticed a bit of a lite moan coming from the front left of the engine (guessing from the hydro pump). I will mention that the forward and reverse movement work as normal. What doesn't work, or almost pulses, is the FEL and the power steering.

Has anyone out there had this happen and if so could you possibly give me some ideas of what this might be.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Your PS and implement pumps are connected together and depend on
sucking hyd oil thru the same inlet from the sump. I suspect the suction
screen is loaded up and needs to me cleaned. The line could also be
crushed, as it does run underneath the tractor. Or punctured and
sucking in air.

When was the last time you cleaned the suction screen?

I have not cleaned this screen. Does it have an access location and if so could you please let me know where it is located. Thanks.

If memory serves me correctly there was one case of the JD 4200 having a collapsed suction line on the hydro system.:)

Yes! The 4x00s have a large rubber manifold that provides the suction
inlet to the 2 pumps. If there is a suction restriction, you can see or
feel the manifold collapse a bit if it sucking too hard. Since it is rubber,
it can get punctured/cracked and cause air entrainment, too.
