I just received a new starter, coils and spark plugs to upgrade my 22HP Robin motor.
My engine is one month out of warranty.
No questions, just new parts.
Good work Robin and Jacek Gawecki.
Thanks to all on this forum
A block heater on the oil tank helps at temps between 0 and 30.

do you have the numbers to call at robin.i'll have mine next week and i want to get started.all i need is the heavy duty starter. did they send the parts direct to you?i have yet to find a dealer here, i think some one said there was one in johnstown,pa. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Make sure you get the starter under warranty, the list price is $425.

Of couse, I may soon have a whole Robin engine, cradle, muffler, and couplings with the "fixes" for a reasonable price.

are you still going to put the kohler in the 422? the half of that coupler on the pump side should work. i never went to get the 422 yet, next week.this is the tractor that stayed at the airport to pull air planes in the hanger.under warrantee.

Congrats, I remain hopeful /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I just got my parts on Monday but I'll be installing tomorrow(Sat)...
When you say the "heater helps", does it start now without the heater...or crank longer...or still not start (at those temps)

My 422 always had started, even at temps below 20, but it would require a boost to the battery. The block heater helped alot, even with the standarded coils and starter. I have not yet installed the new parts, as the weather is milder and I have too many jobs to complete with the trac. I may purchase an additional block heater which will help the 10 gals of oil heat even faster. I will be purchasing the brush cutter and box blade soon.

I am going ahead with the Kohler in the 422. I figure the 27 hp will increase the force exerted by the wheel motors from around 400 lbf at the ground to about 550 if the reliefs don't lift. This should help with the hill climb problem.

If you have a lot without steep hills, once you put the starter in, you should have no problems with the 422. Congrats on the purchase.

Eureka!...
Installed new coils and 1kw starter Sat., checked fuel in float bowl(there was some) installed pump and fuel tank and reconnected battery...did NOT top off batt. charge from previous weeks of failed cranking attempts and 20deg.F.
It fired right off immediately, couldn't tell if cranking was slow or fast it fired so quickly. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Good thing I had parking brake set as "center creep" needed adjustment...even after I scribed the actuator bracket for reassembly.

Retested Sun. morn. with temps in the teens...It fired off quickly with no heat or charging from previous days 15min runtime.

Good Job!

That'll make some folks a lot more confident with the Robbins. Now get out there and do some yard work! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hey, we might get some snow tomorrow /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Sure could use the moisture /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

No, was speaking of the tram pump that sits on the flywheel side of engine...electric pump does not seem necessary on 400 series because of tank placement(at or above carb level)...

In some earlier posts I had made some references to an electric fuel pump(Facet,1.5-3.5psi)based on some others observations...I did get and install that pump weeks before the ignition parts arrived and it made no difference...I then removed it to the "shelf"...This pump could have some influence on problems described by "landscapercarl" for the
2400 series machines because the fuel tank is low and far from the carb....and the fuel line is run thru the tunnel, adjacent to hot hyd. lines when operating long periods in "backhoe" mode...It appears from Carl's description that a vapor lock condition may develop on some 24xx machines.
IF I had a 2400 series, I would probably add this pump and wire it into the dash, spliced off the ign=on terminal

My first excuse was ,"it too cold for the tractor"...and now that it's fixed..."it's too cold" /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You're right ,MR. There is that pile of dirt in the back. It's been there for a couple of years now and I'm just going out there to move it(I don't care where /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

That's true here as well, we'll see... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
