I have a 4239df 4cyl. that starts and then quits. The transfer pump was weak, changed, and new filter. Started up, no rpm's and quits, any suggestions?
I'll bet the check valve on inj pump that fuel return line attaches to is clogged. Loosen the 2 screws on IP timing window to allow fuel to leak out. Start engine & if engine runs correctly then drive coupler in IP is failing requiring replacement. If engine runs correctly you can clean debris from check valve & reinstall, engine should run fine for a while but further damage could be done to IP & possible engine failure.
Tx Jim,
That worked.
I had started at inlet line, filter, transfer pump, line to IP, and checked JD parts break down but didn't find a screen or filter listed, just a fitting. There is not a good break down of the IP. Do you know if they manufacture the IP or is it a common brand?
I will remember you next time.
THANK YOU.
JD does not make that inj. pump.. the company is NOW called Stanadyne.. your tag may say RoosaMaster.. same co..
I've been rebuilding those pumps for a living for the last 30 years..
Contact me w/ any questions regarding it..
You're welcome
JD as most engine manufacturer's outsource especially the rotary type injection pumps from company's such as Roosa-master,Stanadyne,Roto-diesel,Bosch. JD stopped having very many parts for inj pump available through their parts system many yrs ago. There is a spring loaded glass ball in clogged fitting on your IP that requires cleaning to reuse the fitting
