Maybe I have to get out of the "Package Deal" mentality. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I know when I compared all the implements I wanted on our PT and priced it out VS the same implements for the other tractors I was looking at, I spent quite a bit less money. And that included the ~~ $500 for shipping to Indiana. Buying the implements seperately will definately increase the cost due to individual shipping charges.
I bought a 5' brush hog for our International for about $650.00 10 years ago. Not to knock the national farm supply chain store that I bought it from, but the brush hog was not heavy duty and I got what I paid for. I am much more satisfied with my PT 4' PT brush hog over my 5' el cheapo 3pt hog.
Finish mowers were a bit more expensive than the PT finish mower, but you are right, they can be adjusted more easily and we all have heard about the inferior front tires on the PT finish mower(yikes). Fortunately, the finish mower gives a very nice cut, so I am satisfied.
I've never had any problems with the pallet forks fitting pallets. I bring them home from various sources and the forks lift them up just fine. What seems to be the trouble? They are a little narrow, but for what I do it works just fine. Adjustable forks would cost more.
One thing that will add to the maintenance costs of the PT is how much all those hoses will cost to replace when they start drying up and cracking due to UV exposure, etc... It all depends on where the unit is stored and the conditions that it is operated under. By keeping the unit clean and lubricated, I'm pretty sure it will last for many years.
