430 no forward or reverse unless rear diff lock depressed

Any Thoughts? I think I may have broke something. Series of events: I had the bucket down smoothing out the drive, forward and backward kind of agressive and using the lock here and there. After a few passes... no more movement, tryed the diff lock and left rear will still turn, made it back into garage and am dreading tearing down the rear diff. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long winded newbie post.

Thats my guess, powers getting lost to something freewheeling till the diff lock locks the drivetrain to the non broken side.

When you post question like that it would be to your advantage also post the details of your machine. There are people who might to know your Tractor inside out and give you precise advice.

You might not need to open the diff. You should be able to take the wheel off and pull the broken half axle shaft out and replace it.

Most of it came out, I'll have to remove the housing to get the rest of it. 430 2wd yanmar diesel. Doesnt look to hard to do. I'm off to search for a axle. OE is 250.00 ouch.

Did the old axle shear in 2 straight across or in a spiral kind of like a screw?

Pretty much straight across on the splines, there is just one small bit of a twist and then a crack half the circumfrence (sp) at the start of the splines. I'm guessing 3/4 of an inch stuck in diff.
