I'll be having my 4300 w/ 300 hrs delivered in about a week and a half. The Deere mechanic that will be delivering mytractor advised me that thay are having a winter service special that covers all the filters, change engine oil, check and adjust - all belts, hyd. valves, 3ph, pto, hydro. trans., as well as grease and lube and basically check out the entire tractor. The air filters if needed are extra. Price is $189.00. The owner says all mantanance has been done but this sounds like a good idea to me, if for no other reason than to get the hydro trans and the hyd valves adjusted if needed. The tractor may not be back in the shop for a long time(hopefully) and it would be nice to make sure everthing is adjusted properly before I get it home. Besides that the person that will deliver will pick up the tractor and take it to the shop for the same delivery charge($250) for 200+ miles. If I did this later I'd have to pay for hauling to my local dealer(about $100). I think I'll do it.
Any comments.

Just do it. My 4300 has just 40 hrs on it and I had it done. Cost $140 but the dealer picked it up and bought it back. Looked as good as new and seems to run even better than new!

With 300 hours it would make even more sense for you to have it done.

Jerry,
Sounds like good insurance to me,and you have a clean start.
The deliver charge seems more than fair, for my dealer charges $50.oo one way for 25 miles.

I just talked with the guy I'm buying the tractor from and he said he just seviced the entire tractor 16 hrs ago. I've change my mind about having the winter sevice done. I'll save the $189.00 and maybe to be on the safe side change the hydro filter myself since that was not called for on this service. Everthing else was just done. The seller told me it would be a waste of money but to go ahead and do it if I wanted. Since the sevice was just done I'm in agreement, this would be a waste of money.
Let me see here, what can I buy for the tractor for $189.

I don't think 189 dollars is going to get you many tractor toys, errr tools.

But you could get filters, oil, grease and tractor lights. The small things you need.

Hmmm, just thought of this. I ended up spending a couple of hundred dollars on 1/2 sockets wrenchs and other sundry tools. My 4700 tractor has all the bolts/nuts in metric sizes while the attachments are standard. I did not have all the tools I needed in both metric and standard so I had to drop some money that I was not expecting. Hopefully you have large sized tools in both measurements....

Hope this helps...

Do we ever?/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I bought a 3/4" drive set from Sears for ~$200, if I remember right. Had to; there was a big bolt on the cutter I needed to tighten up /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
