4310 3pt problem!!

the lever that controls the 3pt hitch will no longer stay where i put it,i move it backwards to lift box blade let go and it quickly drops the blade! how can i retention it /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Look closely and see where the friction plate is with adjusting bolt.

Not likely normal, but things happen. I believe if you tighten the lock nut, you will be find it will fix it, as long as one of the friction washers (think they are called belleville washers) is not 'broken'.
Can you tell us the history of this? Just suddenly started? always done it? happened gradually from new? Did you buy the tractor new? how many hours? any repair on the rockshaft system?
These things help respond to the problem.

May be more than just tightening the lock nut. Looking at the mechanism on that control linkage will/may show where the problem is at. Curious as to what you find out.

I have the same problem with my 4310. Was fixed once by the dealer at 100 hour service. Now back with 220 hours.

Not for sure, but the owner's manual references the screen and check valve if 3pt operation is erratic. It is located in-line right by the yellow fill cap of hydraulic fluids. They say to take it apart and clean it if necesary...Keep us posted.

It just seems like there's not enough friction on the lever mechanism too keep it in one place... Put a call into the dealer, fortunately I'm under warranty.

Will advise.

The lever is kept in place by what JD calls disk springs. Look at the attachment, they are part #10.

Hmmm... Is that something I can just tighten up, or does it mean that they're thrashed? When I had the seat, etc. apart, it didn't look like something I could take apart...

You would almost have to take it apart to know for sure, but it looks like you could put a spacer washer in to put more pressure on it.

THE FRICTION WASHER ON MY 4310 BROKE IN HALF. PART NUMBER M136623. THE SERVICE MANUAL SHOWS VERY LITTLE ABOUT THE REPAIR. PAGES 758-760. I SPENT MORE AT THE CAR WASH WASHING THE TRACTOR BEFORE REPAIRS THAN THE PARTS COST. I REMOVED THE SEAT,THE SEAT SUPPORT, THE SEAT CLOSEOUT PANEL, THE WHEEL WEIGHTS, THE TIRE, AND THE LEFT FENDER TO MAKE REPAIRS. AN ORING AND SOME ANAEROBIC GASKET MAKER IS ALSO NEEDED. AFTER MAKING THE REPAIRS I ALSO REMOVED THE RIGHT SIDE WHEEL WEIGHTS AND CHECKED THE TORQUE ON THE LUG BOLTS. AT THE SAME TIME I ADDED ANOTHER WEIGHT TO EACH SIDE, I HAVE 3 PER SIDE NOW. I WISH I WOULD HAVE STOPPED AT 2 PER SIDE, THE THIRD ONE STICKS OUT TO FAR.
