4310 and 84\" rfm

is there enough pto hp in a 4310 to run an 84" rfm? or should i be thinking of a 72"?
also, what's a good size of box blade for a 4310? 72" or 60"

Re: 4310 and 84\" rfm

I think it depends. Do you live back East or the Midwest were summers have rain and you may encounter tall wet grass? I live out West were there is no rain from June to October, the grass is dry so mowing is much easier. I have about 31 HP (Kubota L3830 HST) at the PTO and run a 84" finish mower. Don't recall what the 4310 is. My tractor runs the 84" finish mower beautifully. I mow every other week. That means about 12" tall grass getting cut to about 5.5".

What kind of condition is your lawn? The wider the mower the more the imperfections in your lawn are magnified. If you lawn is not perfectly smooth, it will show up after the cut.

Mines not that smooth but then, I'm cutting it fairly tall. I would assume that when someone wants a larger mower, they have some acerage to cut or very little time to do it. Both apply to me.

Re: 4310 and 84\" rfm

I have a 4310 with 72 RFM in KC. Cuts just fine. I don't think an 84 would be a problem. I am in the market for a BB and have decided to go with a 60 if this is any help.

On the boxblade, there are also 66" models. I have a 72" borrowed, but I would buy a 66" My wheels are set full wide, though, and a 60" wouldn't cover my tracks....

Re: 4310 and 84\" rfm

The 4310 should run the 84 mower fine.. have seen them used on 790 also, although a little heavy!

Box scraper decision may be determined by conditions,, but again i think the 4310 would run both just fine. the 60 should barely cover the tire tracks, where the 72 is plenty wide enough.

Good luck!

I don't think your going to see a 790 spin a 84" finish mower very well. If its a well manicured grass to start with sure, but then most tractors will. Your right about the weight as far as carrying it.

Re: 4310 and 84\" rfm

You are right about "seeing" it, ( I haven't) it isn't my tractor, it's a customer's. But he started with a Land Pride 2584, and this year traded into a Frontier 84" because we dropped the Land Pride line and parts and service was an issue with him. No complaints, although I think he understands the limits of his machine. His 790 was "Pre" HP drop, when they were 30 instead of 27. No FEL, with a few weights on the front frame.
