Raised the hood on my 4310 up all the way and the chrome bar engaged the slot that holds it up. Seems to be stuck and won't come back down. Referred to the manual and it shows a latch release rod to push but I don't seem to have one. What do you push to release the hood back down? Also, my lever for the tilt wheel is stuck, any secrets here?

cedarman,

Same thing happened to me. There is no release. Just pull the hood down.

I was at my neighbors house with my brand new 4310 and I opened the hood for the first time. When I went to close it, the hood wanted to distort and twist instead of closing. I did not want to break anything so I ran home to get the manual. As you said, it shows a release lever that is no longer on the tractor. I was able to get in contact with a service tech at the dealer and he said to just pull it down.

I did and it closed. It is just an unnatural feeling the first time with the way the hood flexes. It sure feel like something is going to snap.

If you will add a drop or two of fresh motor oil to the rod where it contacts the hood this will also help smooth things out.

I too had the same problem with my new 4310 a few month's back when i first got it. I couldn't believe how difficult and damaging it could be by pulling down on the hood. After a closer look at the latch's we put some good old 3 in one oil in the slots where the hood rods ride, now it works so easy

I wonder why JD would change the design on the latch. My 4310 has a rod that is spring loaded that must be pulled out of hole in the hood in order to release it. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Because it's CHEAPER. Mine has the cheap latch, wanna trade? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif And if you break the hood trying to close it you'll want to buy another and you know how much that's going to cost.
Speaking of cheaper, I had to remove the seat assembly yesterday to install the Power Beyond package and right under the front of the seat was a big sticker that said "MADE IN VIETNAM." Ruined my afternoon. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks for the lube tip, hit it with some oil and now it comes back down smooth and easy. Before, it sure seemed like I was doing something wrong as things seemed like they would snap before moving down. Still have the frozen lever for the tilt steering wheel adjustment. Will talk to the dealer today and see what they say to do. Seems like I saw a post on this a month or two ago. Fortunately, it's locked in the position I use.

Apply silicon spray to the plastic moving parts of the tilt-wheel. Do that often and it will work itself in nicely. Also apply the spray to the hood hinges. You may just have to do that once to keep it from sticking in the open position but it wouldn't hurt to apply it regularly. I avoid using oil as a lubricant on exterior parts. It catches dirt and makes a mess. Silicon spray is a cleaner alternative.

Seems like a nice design change... I have the lever, and it's not a big bother but it would even be handier to to need it. The silicon spray is a good idea... Normally dealrs will catch this kind of thing, but with a running change it might take a bit to get it together...

Seat made in Vietnam? First of anything useful I've heard of being made there... (Yeah, I know some political candidate made some movies there...)
