I took the cover off of the port that the speed range shifter comes up through. The gear was in low, and I tried shifting to medium but, apparently, not close enough to the correct patterns.

Now the speed gear is in low - the shift lever moves but does not change the gear speed.

Any suggestions how to get the shifter to shift again would be greatly appreciated.

check to see if the rod going thru the trans housing is turning when you move the lever. You should be able to see if looking from behind the wheel while moving the lever.

I will check that.

There was nothing wrong with the shifter when I took the shift pattern cover off - except it was almost impossible to shift into Med and High, which I take is typical.

One time a few weeks ago it shifted very easily into high when I held the shift lever very hard against one side of the cover slot, so I took the cover over to see if it would shift easier slightly outside of the shift cover pattern.

I should have been paying more attention re: the linkage pattern when I started playing with it ......

This is EXACTLY what is wrong with my L4310. Were you able to fix it? What was the problem?
Thanks,
Jamie

Ten year old L3700 HST. It was always difficult to shift between Low/Med/High and at least five years ago it decided it wanted to live in Medium and has been there ever since. I've tried every possible combination to coax it into another range, no luck. The good news is I am able, without compromise, to accomplish every task required of my tractor, in Medium range.

Just to close the loop on this. I finally took my tractor into my local dealership service department. The problem was not internal or serious. The linkage was just worn and it was jammed between medium and low. The dealer replaced some of the external linkage parts, shifts like new again.

I had an L4610 for 15 years with the same range selector setup. The range selector was always prone to hard shifting if the linkages were not kept clean and lubed. It was worse on my tractor because it lived in "M" range 90% of the time. Issue is probably worse if tractor stays outside in the elements. I cleaned and lubed the linkage every few months.

Thanks for the advice. I’m going to do just that and keep an eye on it from now on.
