4310
Hello. I have a 4310 that is twelve years old. I have changed the hydraulic fluid and filters twice according to the times listed in the manual. The current situation is the loader and power steering are slow and jerky when I start up the tractor and whenever the fluid is cool. Once the fluid warms up, it seems to be a bit less jerky but it's still there. When I throttle down to 1000 rpm or so, there is not jerkiness at all...all smooth. I have checked for vacuum leaks on the suction side and have recently replaced the suction side filter, but the issue remains. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue?
Thank you.

When filter changed, was the screen cleaned?

No it wasn't. I suspect that might be my next step. I have about eight gallons of fluid ready and waiting, but before I do that, I wanted to see if it could be anything else first. Last time I cleaned the screen, there were a lot of rubber chunks on it. The JD technician at the parts place assured me those were pieces of gasket material that were breaking off and not to worry about it. I'm not sure if that is the case.

My 4310 acted up when the screen got clogged, a good cleaning fixed the problem

Today I drained the hydraulics, cleaned the suction screen and changed filters. I added fresh oil and fired it up. The problem is cured and the loader and power steering are operating normally once again. Thank you all for the advice.

How bad the screen plugged, did you happen to take any pictures?

It was dirty and the fluid was a bit dark. There was very fine metal particles that covered the screen in spots. I flushed the screen in a parts washer and blew it off with compressed air. I knew right away the screen was choked when I first dropped the hose fitting and fluid ran out kinda slow. As soon as I pulled the screen out, it emptied pretty quick. Sorry, I did not take any photos.

Just glad to hear you got it fixed and going again. Thanks for updating your post and welcome to the forum.

On my 4310, the steering valve mechanism under the steering wheel needed to be lubricated. My steering shaft had gotten bone dry and was hard to turn. But that's a different situation.
