As indicated in previous post, I am looking into replacing my 755 with a 4310. Half the time on the 755 is mowing so this aspect is important to me. I am looking for feedback on the use of the 4310 for mowing, especially the raising and lowering of the mower deck. I want this to be independant of the 3PH and with repeatable mower height. My local dealer did not have direct knowledge so looked it up in the book. Apparently there is a height adjuster near/on the floor that can be set to limit the travel of the MMM when using the third DSV. Anyone familiar with this and how easy is it to use? On my 755 there is a round control attached to a threaded rod that is connected to the travel stop. The control has a handle that locks into one of 4 holes (1/4 turn increments). It is very easy to get repeatable settings. 1-3/4 turns for normal mowing. 1-1/2 if I want to mow at a high cut, etc. Does the 4310 have similar ease of operation?

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

Yes, there is a similar depth stop control for the mower, but it is located under the left floorboard. You cannot adjust it from the seat. You need to order the tractor with a 3rd Selective Control Valve in addition to the Joystick Dual SCV for the loader. The control lever for the 3rd valve is beside the rockshaft control lever. It controls a hydraulic cylinder located beside the depth knob under the left floorboard to raise and lower the Mower deck totally independent of the 3 point hitch.

JackIL,

How easy is it to make the adjustment? Seems like under the floor board might be difficult to get at. Isn't the hydraulic filter located under the left floor board as well? Can repeatable adjustments be made? Can it be done by hand or is a tool needed? Sounds like it might be more of a set it and forget it kind of a deal and not meant for frequent changes. I like the fact that it has a separate SCV. The rock shaft on the 755 is controlled by the same circuit as the curl for the FEL. The easy accesability of the height adjuster makes it convenient to "lock" the deck in the up position for loader work but that means I have gotten in the habit of always resetting the adjuster to full up after each mower use.

Jeff,

It is just under the platform steps on the left side and not difficult to reach at all. You just turn it with your hand--no tools. It has a series of detented positions so you can always know where you are and get back to where you were at a previous time.

I have a 4310 with MMM. The height adjustment is there as stated but I wish it was setup different. Guess I was spoiled by my 445 JD. You could set the height right from the seat without getting off. I have mine set and don't often change it maybe because I don't like to hunt for the old setting. Guess since my 445 was a lawn and garden this feature was designed in. Seems on the 4310 it was designed into the mower and not so much into the tractor itself.

I called my Dealer about the metal stip that fits into the grooves of the adjustment knob. I have to bend it sometimes to keep it in the groove. They called Deere and said they had some complaints about it and were working on a change. That was last summer and I never got a call on it. Next time I'm talking with the Dealer I'm going to ask. My guess is they would provide some type of stiffer metal.

I also have an ongoing foggy issue of the dash. I was informed that the 10 series had a newer glass that was offered on the 4000 series. I called about getting it and that was what I was told. They said Deere was still trying to find a real fix for the issue.

Really like this tractor over-all.

My first day mowing and now I understand the position control. The 72 MMM on the 4410 has a third hydraulic control. This lowers or raises the mower. The mower has adjustments on the wheels to adjust the cutting height of the blades. You add c washers to the front wheels and pin the back wheels in a raised positin. The mower has a mechanical position stop to prevent the mower from lowering itself from leak down and to act as a stop for the mower. On pavement and after adjusting the wheels you screw a big knob into (Clockwise) the mower to adjust the travel limit (down) of the mower. I have read the manual almost 10 times now and now after actually using the mower I know what this does. You dont want the mower to relie on the hydraulic lift, you want it to rest on the mechanicle stop so that the wheels are about 1/4 inch above the ground. The hydrauilics is just a easy way to raise and lower the mower. Have I explained it? I will read any post again tonight with the manual available.
