Thanks for all your help-it would seem that this should be factory install option-my fears have been realized. The dealer made a cheesy install on lever. It now goes next to seat thru plastic housing where 3 point control lever comes out. The dealer hand cut the groove in the plastic thruwhich the lever protrudes. Irregular cut appears very non John Deere. Any more input would be appreciated. I hat to make a big deal of it but it sucks for a 18000 tractor

Grianan,

I too have this decision to make in the purchase of my 4710. Dealer has told me I have only two options.

One option is the way you describe where the dealer will install a lever just below the FEL loader joystick knob and directly in front of the joystick shaft. One would only have to move their hand up and down to access third SCV function. Dealer will cut a slot into the plastic housing. Maybe, it's not quite John Deere but this is the way they show it on one of their marketing brochures that I picked up.

The other option is to have the dealer install what they call a Fasse valve that's located as a push button in the joystick handle. It electrically diverts the oil from one function (curl or lift) while the button is engaged to operate the clamshell function of a 4in1 bucket lets say. Bad news is dealer says the Fasse valve will cost me $350 with most of a day to install due to a considerable amount of wiring and installation time, the better part of a day. Total cost on this would be about $700.

I've decided to go the route you did as this is the more cost effective route to go. I will simply tell my dealer to be careful and neat when cutting the slot in the control housing and after the cut is made to trim it out with trim molding that they have on the slot openings for the other controls that are in the housing. I'll save this $700 and use it instead to buy a landscape rake. I can't see spending this amount on a push button for the sake of just a little convenience. You might want to think of having your dealer install the same similar trim molding around the perimeter of the cut so as to hide any irregular or jagged edges. Hope all this helps.

The 3rd SCV is a factory available option but the dealer can charge more if they install it.

My dealer provided further information on this yesterday. Following is what he sent me by e-mail:

"With regard to the 3rd SCV, I ordered your tractor with a factory installed lever control. This is how this works. When you order a tractor with the dual SCV and joystick control, there is a 3rd valve already on that selective control valve. If you order the lever control and remotes to access that valve, it comes through factory installed. It can be field installed. All of the moldings come through exactly the same, there is a cut out where the lever control is supposed to go. The only difference is whether it's cut at the factory or at the dealer. If the technician takes his time and is precise in what he is doing, you shouldn't be able to discern whether it's factory or field installed. I think sometimes technicians only think of the operational aspect of things with too little attention paid to cosmetics....As far as the molding you spoke of, I think the only places you'll see that are on the slots that are always used (gear shift or range for instance) because it can be molded that way in manufacturing....The only other difference between factory and field installed is dealer cost. The net difference is in favor of the dealer for the kit to be ordered separately by about $40. But, it takes 3 hours to install one at an internal shop rate of about $50/hour. Factory installed saves the customer between $100 and $150."

Rancar, It sounds like you are getting the same arrangement for control of the 4in1 that I am. I got a message from Mark that I should take delivery of my 4310 about 1 week before you get your 4710... he said I should take delivery before the end of the month!
We'll have to dig some holes together!

Jim,

Glad to hear it. Mark's very good about this. He sent me an e-mail last Friday to let me know my 4710 was being built that day. I'm trying to be patient. First big project is to clean up the remains of an old hedgerow I removed 3 years ago and to get that strip into ag production. Tired of looking at the mess...now looking forward to cleaning it up. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
