4410 hydrostatic/power steering wuestion

If I知 driving my tractor (most noticeable at lower ~1800-2100 RPM) and turn the wheel to the left, the tractor slows down until I stop steering and then it returns to previous speed. Does this indicate a steering pump issue or do I need to check the charge pressure and adjust it to specs? Any help or suggestions would be great.

But not when you turn to the right?

If that is the case, the first thing I would look for a bent/damaged steering cylinder rod or link. If the
steering pump has to work extra-hard, it will rob power from the engine, which needs to turn the HST pump.

It does I to the right as well, but not as much. I’m assuming this is because when turning left, it is extending the cylinder and takes more hydraulic fluid volume. This is based on my limited understanding of the system.

I'd suggest getting some hyd. pressure information to help diagnose where to look for the problem.

I’ll see if I can pick up some pressure gauges and set up a test set. I was just wondering if anyone had seen these symptoms before.

How long since sump screen was checked/cleaned?

All fluids and filters changed, screen cleaned this spring. Tractor has 534 hours on it.

Are you saying ANY amount of steering to the left, or when you go full-lock and you hear the relief valve squeal? Does it make a difference if 4x4 is engaged?

The front hydraulic pump is for the power steering, 4x4 cylinder and PTO engage cylinders. The rear is for the transmission, 3PT and loader. What is common between them is the suction line, no connection between the outputs. If you look at the pumps, there is an F shaped rubber hose that connects the 2 pumps the sump, always a chance this is collapsing. Since you say the screen was cleaned and new fluids, I would look at the charge pressures. There is pressure relief for the power steering and one for the hydro charge pressure. It could be that you see an RPM change that affects the hydro pump flow more than is should if the charge pressure is too low.

Is your motion/load match switch on? The one just to the left of the steering wheel. This can slow forward motion when the revs are not high.
