I bought a 540 rear pto kit for my 445 and the outer cases are damaged. I bought a new inner cover and am trying to take the outer cover off from the damaged inner cover and it won't come apart. To make matters worse, some of the gears fell out while I was trying to gently pull the two covers apart. So now, even if I manage to get them apart I'm going to need some sort of explosion diagram or something to help steer me in getting it all back together. Does anyone have a pdf file showing this thing that I could possibly print out? Any help would be most appreciated!

Man, that's a lot of parts. Good luck with that.

Looked up the older 445 installation of PTO unit, and there were some guidelines that may make more sense to you, given you are possibly repeating some install. Posting this page.

Thanks, all! I have the PTO reassembled and ready to put on, which seems to be fairly straightforward and easy, but now have run into a snag on page 3, where it talks about plugging the PTO module into the AM121071 Wire Harness that I don't have! :( I found the Yellow and Blue wires that are connected, but not the 3-pin and 4-pin connectors that are supposed to be there! Thought about buying a newer wiring harness and rewiring the entire tractor, but that seems like a nightmare of epic proportions and don't think it will solve anything, because I'd then need a PTO jump wire that's also not available! :(

So, it looks like the missing wiring harness is going to put this project on hold till I can find this elusive AM121071 Wire Harness. Now, I'm wondering, can I go ahead and finish putting the rear unit back together and at least button it up to use the tractor for mowing? If it's possible, should I reattach the wire that plugs in to the rear of the PTO cover? What, exactly, does that thing do? If I hadn't taken all the plugs and stuff out of the original cover and installed everything into the new PTO cover I'd just pop that back on and go. I'm thinking I could just use it like it didn't have the rear PTO kit bolted on for now, till I can find the needed harness, right?

Do you have the service tech manual with the wiring diagrams?

If not, suggest that be your next move to track what you need.

In this drawing there are two switches key 49. Did your former rear case have any of these switches? None? One? Both?
I suspect (wild guess) these switches tell the module which PTO is operating (rear, mid or both) The module "may" then turn an indicator light ON in the dash to tell which PTO is running. Also if allowed (no sure about this) the rear can run operator off seat, the module might bypass the seat switch???

It looks like you have a selector lever that lets you select rear, mid or both PTOs. The original PTO solenoid still operates the PTO clutch. If you are able to hook up the electrical same as before, you should be able to use the mid PTO as before. You "might" be able to also use the rear PTO too, but would not have a dash light or be able to have it operate without an operator on the seat (if that function is supported).

I would button up and see if you have PTO functions.

My GUESS is you did not have the switches key 49 before. Since you had only the mid PTO, the dash light for it would always come on when the PTO was engaged. The two switches and module just tell the dash which PTO is engaged.

Does the instructions you have tell when rear PTO will be allowed to operate? As in with or with out operator on the seat?, if park brake must be engaged for operator off the seat?, if it operate in reverse? I am guessing the module is what controls these things.

To answer BeenThere, I do have the technical cd, but finding anything on that has been a lesson in frustration! I most likely need a better PDF reader. I hate Adobe and won't put that on my computer, but the one I'm using isn't all that great.

To answer Zebrafive, thanks! I'll have to study all of that, but sounds like I may luck out ;) Let's hope! At the very least, I want to still be able to mow the yard while I sort out the electrical aspects of this thing! ;)
