4500 50 hr service

im at 48 hrs, got all the supplies to do the first service. is there anything i need to watch out for? like getting air into fuel system. anything pressurized? ive been blasted by jet engine oil before, its funny but you dont want to do it twice. the main thing im worried about is how to prevent air from getting into fuel control. ive never worked on a deisel.

I think this in the service manual, but if you have a two stage fuel filter only change them one at a time. Change the primary filter (you will want to fill the new filter w/ fuel), start the tractor and let it run a while... then do the same for the secondary filter. You will still get a little air in there but it will just stumble and run rough for a bit instead of chewing up a starter trying to prime the pump.
Also get ready to clean up a small mess as fuel will run out. If you are like me everything will be perfect until you drop the filter and it bounces off your foot spraying fuel all over an otherwise anitseptic floor. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

ive worked on a littlt bit of everything, but mostley boeing ,douglas, and gulfstream. i did work on a bt-15 once to, that was kinda cool, it was for the confederate air force.

Sorry it took so long for my reply. Computer bailed out on me. I am an instructor in the T-6 Texan II. Built by Ratheyon. Spent many years as an IP in the venerable old T-37, but the Air Force replaced it with the T-6. Pretty good airframe, really great state of the art instrumentation, but not as tough as the -37. Little more difficult to fly in formation than the -37, but it makes up for it in the weather (instruments). The T-37 is one of the greatest spinning aircraft ever made in my opinion. T-6 dosen't even come close.
Need to get a tractor. Longhorns and occasioanlly plain stocker cows on the 60 acres. Was looking at the Mah. 45 or 5500 2wd. Not sure if I would get my $ worth out of 4wd in Central Texas. I have recently discovered, however, that I have some flowing springs that keep what used to be dry ground really sloppy. After your experience with the 4500, what do you think. Do in need the 4 wheel?

if your interested in 4wd take a look at the 4530, its new and very cool. i wanted the 5500 4wd but i couldnt justify the extra money. i will tell you this the 4500 2wd has exceeded my expectations big time. when its muddy i dont want to make ruts so i let it dry out a little. im sure ill run into a situation where i need 4wd one of these days but not yet. it sure dont need it for dirt work.

I'm no tractor expert, but I have the 5500 4WD and you just can't beat the traction and maneuverability while using the FEL. If you never use a loader, I guess the 2WD would be just peachy, but the 4WD has already bailed me out of a few sticky spots.

I would also recommend staying away from the 4530 as it has dry brakes instead of wet. Wet brakes are supposed to stay cooler and work better. That was important to me with my hilly property. Use the brakes a lot and get them hot and lookout! I am still scratching my head why they put dry brakes on the 4530. BTW, you can get a 4500 in 4WD anyway, but I would also recommend the 5500 4WD as a minimum if you are in that size of a tractor.

The 4 wheel drive is great! I used it the first day I had my 6500 4WD. I was doing some backhoe and loader work and it started sprinkling a bit which got it a little muddy out, and the 4WD really made the difference!
