Hi all,

I have posted on here previously about this machine and had some great advice on repairing cylinder seals etc. The machine has done a heap of work but disaster has struck. While excavating in some clay/shale (heavy going and my technique probably not the best) the weld on the bottom attachment bracket for the boom swing motor broke off the faceplate resulting in the entire boom being detached from the machine! First glance it looks like the swing motor itself is essentially undamaged (hard to be sure).

I am after opinions as to how to proceed, this is an old farm machine and my budget precludes scrapping it and buying another rig. Having said that, repairs may turn out to be uneconomical. Has anyone faced anything like this or could offer advice.

My initial thoughts (well my initial ones couldn't be printed! :censored: ) is to remove the backplate and bracket and get it professionally welded back on, repair/replace torn out hydraulic pipes from top of swing motor and see if everything will go back together and actually work. Am I being naive?

Well, THAT certainly sucked! Disappointed that nobody chimed in here 6 yrs ago to give you any help...I have no wisdom to offer but hey, hope you decided to try to weld it back together.

The bright side was, you had the perfect opportunity to renew that pin and bushing while it was apart like that! I don't have the sideshifter hoe but my pivot pin/bushing is pretty sloppy and I have no idea how much trouble it is to get the thing off and replace it.
Judging from your lack of responses here I might as well not even bother to post about it, huh?

Wow! you broke her good. Lucky nobody got hurt. So you have a fabrication welding genius around you? Or get used replacement parts from wherever in the world possible.

If you look at the OP picture, the lower pivot has been welded before. Trying to weld it again would give the same end result. To try and get that entire machine to a fabrication shop and then repaired with reinforcement would cost more than the machine is worth. That machine is now a parts donor.
