Ford 4500 Industrial tractor
Hello Everyone, I have , I believe, a 1965 Ford Industrial Tractor 3 cly. Diesel that has a bad universal joint in the driveshaft that runs from the front of the crankshaft to the Hydraulic pump mounted at the front of the tractor. I took the 4 bolts off the crankshaft end and it looks as though you can slide it forward into the splines on the Hyd. pump. I tried this and it may have moved 1/8 inch or so and that was it. It looks like you could slide that driveshaft forward enough into the hyd. pump that the bolted flange end could drop out and then pull the driveshaft completely out. But the driveshaft will not slide forward enough to clear the the pulley on the crank . I figured that I better stop and figure out some sort of a game plan here ! Not sure where to go from here? Any Help would be Appreciated . Thank You, Josey.

The driveline is a C5NNA932C. This driveline is not compressible. You will need to unbolt the pump to get the shaft out. On the 550 backhoe I had to go in from the front and unbolt the oil cooler if I remember correctly.

The universals are part number 218353.

Hi Sportsman and Thank You . I looked at that as an option but the pump has both a input and a output line on each side of the pump with 4 bolts on each one. Both are hard piped to the pump and with no leaks here , I didn't want to open them up unless necessary. Also, worried if springs or valves (whatever) would come flying out when you pulled them lines off? Thank You for your input, I appreciate it. Josey.

it's a cpmmon u-joint, we used to get them at NAPA, be sure to change that fan belt while you have the shaft loose!!!

Dimensionally it is a common 6 series domestic u-joint. For this application, one with the zerk in a cap rather than in the cross is much, much more user friendly.

Absolutely! Thanks for mentioning this. Nothing like having to take the pump loose again for a darned fan belt.

There aren't any loose parts at the hose connections. Just pay attention to the Oring when you reassemble.

OK Cool!! Thank You so Much! I thought there would be something in there but I didn't want to get any surprises when I pulled them apart. Thanks for the Heads Up!! Take Care!! Josey.
