Does anyone know of a production retro-fit exhaust system for the 4500 that brings the muffler down the side of the tractor instead of having it stick straight up? I've had to have my muffler piping brazed together on 3-4 occassions because I accidentally run into a small overhead branch with the muffler sticking straight up. I just did it again.

Am I reading this correctly?? You've knocked your muffler off 4 times??? This does'nt sound accidental to me.....(grin). Why don't you get another muffler rather than braze it.....those 4 bolts holding it on to the manifold are pretty strong...BobG in VA

The bolts held just fine. The pipe broke between the manifold and the muffler. My local welding shop has done the brazing for me. I'm told that brazing isn't as strong as welding, but on the cast-iron pipe that's what has to be done, is what the welder told me. 4 times breaking continues to occur at the brazing point.

What about just cutting all low hanging limbs off? I made brackets for my old tractor to mount my 30 inch long handle nippers to the fender. That way I just stop and snip any limb or vine within reach while on the tractor. I have yet to figure out yet where on my 6520 to mount the brackets. :( Or the factory supplied tool box. Now if you really want to reroute the exhaust, what about just taking the tractor to a muffler shop?
hugs, Brandi

If you re-route your exhaust you may want to invest in a helmet with faceguard. ;)

I had to laugh when I read this one. You have a great sense of humor and an excellent way of making a point.

I think I solved my muffler problem. I used 2" galvanized pipe elbows to route the pipe out of the engine area. On 2 of the 90 degree elbows, I had my local welding shop weld a 1" thick flat plate in which bolt holes were drilled to line up with the exhaust manifold and the muffler. Now my muffler hangs straight down the side of the tractor and it won't get hung up in the low tree branches where I mow.

Hmmm, I was going to post some photos, but there's no button to click on to attach them. Aha, I see it down below. I'll post photos of the rerouted muffler and a photo of the area I mow that used to catch my muffler.

Yes I can. The side cover only has to be lifted about an inch and then pulled down and away from the engine. There's enough play in the pre-cut hole in the side cover to allow for the 1" lift to remove it. I also didn't have the screwed fittings welded together, so they can still be unscrewed. I used 4 pieces of 2" threaded pipe: 3x elbows and 1x 3" straight with male threads on each end.

My only concern at this point are sparks coming out of the muffler and causing a grass fire as I mow. I've never seen sparks come out of the muffler, but I suppose it is possible.

The Westendorf TA25 bucket QA system quickly and easily allows the operator to change from buckets to other front accessories without having to drive out bucket pins.

When mounting the Westendorf TA25 loader the muffler is relocated downward to be well protected by the loader rear axle support thus making the tractor a handy tool to use in poultry house situations.
